Met zijn expressieve geluid, lyrische improvisaties en verhalende composities behoort saxofonist, componist en bandleider Daan Kluwer (Utrecht, 1998) tot een van de beloftes van de Nederlandse muziekscene.
Met zijn Quintet duikt Daan in de diepten van de 20e-eeuwse sciencefictionliteratuur. Geïnspireerd door dystopische klassiekers zoals 1984 van George Orwell en Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? van Philip K. Dick, maakt de band muziek die de luisteraar aanzet tot denken.
Ze verkennen thema’s zoals de opkomst van kunstmatige intelligentie, autoritaire regimes, klimaatverandering en de ethische grenzen van genetische manipulatie, waarbij elke compositie dient als een hoofdstuk in een groter, zich ontvouwend verhaal.
Met een geluid dat elektronica, post-rockinvloeden en filmische soundscapes combineert, dompelt het Quintet luisteraars onder in een wereld die zowel futuristisch als beangstigend dichtbij aanvoelt.
